Here is our donkey and cat guardian, Bella. We call her a Pyrenean Mastiff, although she was sold to us as a Great Pyrenees Dog. She weighs about 195 llb and she stays outside all night by her own choice on a small knoll where she can watch both the miniature and mammoth donkeys. She sleeps inside the house during the day because she hates hot weather. We have mountain lions, bobcat, javelina (small wild pig-like animals), coyotes and even a bear could wander down out of the mountains when we are in a drought (which seems like most of the time!). We are less than a mile from the San Pedro river, which is a natural highway for animals (and even illegal aliens from Mexico and South America) as there is never any water in it! |
