Miniature Donkeys

Our miniature donkeys are from Oregon, chosen for their conformation, ease of breeding, teeth and personality. Our jack, Paint 'N the Town is small and spotted with a sweet personality, excellent conformation. Miniature donkeys are smart, sweet, truly like people, don't eat much and are easier to take care of and keep healthy than horses and ponies. Except for intact jacks or animals that have been poorly handled, they do not bite, buck or kick. They must be kept with at least one other donkey, horse or mule in order to be happy and well-adjusted because socially they are a herd animal. They can be trained to pull carts and can carry small children, but really their greatest quality is the great, friendly outdoor pets that they make. They are quite lovable and huggable. They also make a good companion to a lonely horse. They will chase coyotes and try to stomp on them.

Miniature Donkey Spotted Jack

The little spotted jack above was born 3-28-06. He is very friendly and outgoing and already used to having his feet picked up. He will have to stay with his mother for 5 to 6 months. You should see him run circles around his mother!

Finally! November 20th 2004, Rebecca gave birth to a gray dun, very fuzzy baby girl! She has her mother's pretty head and appears to be very healthy. She is NOT REALLY gray dun, because she has a white spot on her forehead, which means she is really a spotted donkey, according to donkey genetics, like her father, P.T.

both parents are spotted

Herd sire P.T. (Paintin' the Town) is 3 years old (summer 2004) and has one baby on the ground (a spotted jack, already sold). (August 2004)

Here is our jack born April 14, 2004;
both parents are spotted.

The photo on the right is Tessa Bear with her baby, Tequila Rose. She was born April 21, 2004. She is considered black with a cross as her foal coat color. She has no light points and a champion smoky black and white father and we are going to add her to our breeding herd. She loves people and is very playful. Poor Tessa Bear arrived from Oregon and had her baby in the transport truck in the driveway! She took it all in stride, she is 12 years old and a very calm donkey. At some point in her life she was overfed and therefore has the permanent 'broken crest'. I always wonder where the term 'crestfallen' came from and if it had anything to do with donkeys?

Clayton is holding Mico, our baby born May, 2003. He is sweet and friendly. His Grandfather is RVB Bartley, a champion Jack, and his Father is Minipickins Levi, also a champion! Levi was a charcoal black and white donkey. His mother has beautiful conformation, even at 15 years of age! His mother's breeding was unfortunately lost and she was therefore registered as an 'untraced'. I KNOW she had great breeding because of her exceptional conformation. Mico was almost 24 inches at one week, his mother is 34 inches and his father was 33 inches, which means he will likely grow to between 33 and 36 inches when mature (9 to 12 inches from birth height, in general). He would be a great show donkey or used to improve conformation in your herd. He would also be great to breed standard donkeys size down or to add spots to any sized donkey (except Mammoth!) I can tell you that this is one SMART DONKEY! I can let him put his teeth on my fingers and if he bites down I say 'NO' and he stops immediately. He loves people. He could be trained for any purpose, including pulling carts, giving children rides, he has unlimited potential. He could protect livestock from coyotes and other predators if gelded or keep a lonely horse company while keeping weeds eaten (reduces fire hazard).

Above is Chinaco, a beautiful baby jack miniature donkey, either very dark brown or black with a cross, we aren't certain yet. He has no light points. He is the grandson of champion Levi and yet very small and we are very excited about him. He was born July 30th, 2003. We are considering keeping him. His mother is Taylor, a dark brown with no light points and his father is Jasper, a small black donkey with a cross in Oregon.
